Children with Allergies

If your child has an allergy, you would have received an email from myself asking you to confirm if anything has changed.  I have had a few replies however am still waiting on some parents coming back to me.  If you are still to reply to me, please can you do this by the end of this week.  It is essential that we review any allergy information we must ensure that we have the correct information to enable us to care for your child.  You only need to reply if your child has an allergy and I have emailed you directly in the last couple of weeks.

Staffing

Congratulations to Roksana who has completed her college course. A huge well done Roksana!

Jenny and Caitlyn are on holiday next week therefore the staff in your child’s room will take observations of their key children and will provide you with feedback on your child’s online journal.

Automatic Deferral Petition

Dear Parents,

I hope you all had a lovely weekend.

Due to COVID,  many children have missed a year of nursery. As a result several parents across Edinburgh have been refused a funded deferral place If their child does not have a January or February birthday.  They have been on contact with their local MSP to support automatic deferral regardless of age. It would be much appreciated if all parents whether your child will defer or not would support this bill.

Please see the link for the petition below:

Motion by Councillor Mary Campbell – Deferred Start Funding – referral from the ECF Comm.pdf (edinburgh.gov.uk)

Thank you for your support.

Best Wishes

Jordan Atkin

He Did it!

Huge congratulations to Jordan Atkin, our Preschool Supervisor who received his final result and passed with flying colours.

He is now a proud graduate with a BA in Childhood Practice degree.

Super proud of you Jordan, you have worked so hard and you deserve your degree!!

Introducing Yasmin

Hi, my name is Yasmin and I’m working in the tweenies room.

I have a foundation degree in Early Childhood Studies and have over nine years experience looking after children.

I have worked in a variety of settings, including other nurseries and cruise ships.

I am a keen runner, like to travel and I enjoy socialising in my free time.

I am very happy to join Early Days team.

Introducing Ben

Hi my name is Ben, I am delighted to have started working at the Doune Terrace Nursery.

I love music, football and reading.

I have really enjoyed meeting all of the children so far and am looking forward to getting to know them better in the future and developing my career in childcare.

Introducing Cristina

Hello! My name is Cristina and I’m 29 years old, born and raised in the warm and sunny Spain (Madrid to be precise).

I’m studying psychology and I have always been very fond of children. That’s why I decided to continue my career in a nursery, and I cannot be happier with my choice!

I feel extremely rewarded when I spend time with your children. Every little opportunity of teaching them is what makes me go to the nursery with a big smile every morning.

When I’m not in the nursery, I am enjoying the beautiful spots of Edinburgh or the unique landscapes we have in Scotland.

Nursery Update

Dear Parents,

I hope you have all had a lovely week and are looking forward to the weekend.

Medication

We have been reviewing our policies and I would like to give you a little update on our medication policy.

If your child has any allergies or requires long term medication for example Piriton/inhaler, this must be prescribed by the doctor or minor ailments and can be brought into the nursery. A medication form must be completed by the room supervisor and parents and then signed by the manager and parent before being kept in the nursery. The details of the prescription e.g. dosage required, MUST match the medication form you complete for us.  The room supervisors will review this every 3 month to ensure that all information is correct and is still in date.

If your child requires antibiotics, we ask that you keep them at home for 24 hours after receiving their first dose. Your child can then come back to nursery if they are well enough and at our discretion, we can then administer antibiotics at nursery if needed.

If your child’s dietary/allergy requirements change, please can I ask that you inform the nursery as soon as they do change to allow us to update our records. We must receive written confirmation of this change and your key worker will update your child’s care plan.

I have attached our medication policy for you to review.

Events Calendar

I have attached this year’s Events Calendar for you so you can pop some dates into your diaries. We will obviously need to wait on guidance over the next couple of months, but I thought it would be good to put some provisional dates in your diary.

Pick Up Times

I have noticed that there is quite a lot of congestion outside when you are coming to collect your children from nursery. I am reviewing this and looking at how we can try ease this in the evenings. Can I please remind all parents that if there are parents in the basement downstairs to stay at the top of the steps until it is clear? I am looking into bringing your child’s buggies upstairs before pick up time so this will be a little easier for you.

Staffing

Congratulations to Carmen who has completed her college course. A huge well done Carmen!

I am pleased to welcome our new member of staff Yasmin Osbourne who will be joining our Tweenie Room team next week. Yasmin has had lots of experience working with children in early years and she is very excited to meet you all.

Ruxi and Chloe are on holiday next week therefore the staff in your child’s room will take observations of their key children and will provide you with feedback on your child’s online journal.

Many Thanks,

Claire Allan

Nursery Update

Dear Parents,

I hope you are well, I have just a few updates for you this week.

School leavers

Thank you to parents who have let me know what school your child will be attending.  If you are yet to do so, can I ask that you drop me an email and let me know.  We are keen to start writing up the children’s reports in the next month and start reaching out to schools so this would be much appreciated.

I have attached an information guide for parents from the Early Years team. The transition story focus for primary 1 this year is ‘The smeds and the Smoos’. We will be planning lots of fun activities around this story over the coming months.  All nurseries are being asked to use the same story so that when children head into primary 1, they all have a shared interest to focus on.
