I have recently received further guidance from Health Protection regarding testing children who are displaying symptoms. They confirmed that if a child is displaying symptoms of COVID then parents should get a PCR test done. I know some parents are using Lateral Flow tests to test their children however It is important to note that these tests are only for people without symptoms. Anyone with symptoms should continue to follow the usual guidance, self-isolate and book a PCR test at a test centre or via a home test kit at the earliest opportunity.
If your child has symptoms of the virus and you decide not to get them tested, your child must self-isolate for 10 days and can return to nursery on the 11th day as long as they are well enough to do so and have no COVID related symptoms.
After getting your child tested, as long as their test result is negative, and your child has been free from a temperature for 48 hours then they are ok to return to nursery if they are well enough to do so. If your child has been tested due to a cough and their test result comes back negative, they are able to come back to nursery as long as they are well enough. All results must be emailed to myself before they return to nursery.
