We Loved The Playday Event At Vogrie!

Some of our younger children from Walker Street Nursery and Melville Street Nursery had the pleasure of attending the Playday event at Vogrie Country Park yesterday.

Playday is the national day for play, traditionally held on the first Wednesday in August and is the biggest play sector event in the UK.

As well as being a celebration of children’s right to play, Playday is a campaign that highlights the importance of play.

It goes a long way to raising awareness of the fact that play is not only a creativity and learning tool, it also has a hugely positive impact on the mental health and overall wellbeing of a child.

Hundreds of events take place all around the country and we were lucky enough to have one on our doorstep.

The Vogrie event was full of fun play opportunities from MAP and their partner organisations including a bike skills track, a campfire, water and sensory play, a mud kitchen, a balloon tent, crafts, pond-dipping, storytelling, train rides, Tumble Tots, a smoothie bike, and much much more! And that was over and above all the usual Vogrie attractions – What an amazing day!

The children and staff had such a fantastic time, we can’t wait until next year!

Who Knew Health and Hygiene Could Be So Much Fun?!

Melville Street Pre School have been focusing on hygiene and health. To encourage the children to think about hygiene, we have been going in to the babies and tweenie rooms, helping them wash their hands before having tea. They all really took to their ‘buddy’ roles and had a lot of fun helping the younger children.

The children have also been talking a lot about making cakes in the role play area so we decided to do it for real! We have been baking a few times over the last week, making healthy cakes, which also contributed to our hygiene and health topic.

Who knew Health and Hygiene could be so much fun?!

Life’s a Beach For Pre School

The Pre School children at Melville Street had a fabulous day at Portobello Beach last week. We had so much fun in the sand, and the children loved splashing in the water so much that they didn’t want to leave!

We were also lucky enough to see the tide come in, which the children thought was amazing. They took a real interest in it and asked lots and lots of questions.

Our souvenirs from the day were all the shells and stones which we collected and brought back to the nursery.

Lets hope we get more of this weather!

Good Luck Karima

Karima Perez - Melville Street Nursery Manager and TeacherAs most of you will know, Karima finishes up as Manger of Melville Street this week to go back to primary teaching.

Its not goodbye though as Karima will continue to work one day a week in the pre school room from August.

Good Luck Karima, we look forward to welcoming you back after the Summer.

Toddlers Talk Doctors

Over the next few weeks, the toddlers will be working on a topic about the people who help us.

The children have been talking about going to visit the doctors when they are not feeling not well.

We have also been talking about some of them going to see their newborn brothers or sisters in hospital.

This is proving to be a very popular topic so far, with lots of dressing up involved!

Pre School Get Messy!

Our recent science experiment was amazing –  the pre school children made their own ice cream goop!

They loved pouring and mixing it into containers to sell their ice cream. Pre School love getting involved in daily messy activities.

This was an excellent opportunity to talk about money and look at different coins. This is why we have implemented money into our new topic, countries.
